KJZZ is a National Public Radio member station in Phoenix, Arizona. Owned by Rio Salado College, it operates from studios on the college’s campus in Tempe. KJZZ airs a format of NPR, jazz, and blues. KJZZ is sister station to the area’s main classical music station, KBAQ. The facility houses “Sun Sounds” a community service of volunteers which provides a reading service for the blind via an HD2 broadcast.
DNAV was chosen as the consultant and technical integrator for the new broadcast facility. The rebuild of the facility required extensive planning to streamline removal of thousands of feet of existing cabling, installation of 32,000 feet of new cabling and a balance of upgrading the furniture and technology of each element of the broadcast system without affecting the award winning quality of on-air broadcasts.
The reimagined broadcast facility includes primary and redundant studios for KJZZ, KBAQ and Sun Sounds, combined with a large format suite of editing, production and research studios, including a dynamic newsroom.
